The biggest hold up in recruiting is a lack of access to coaching contacts that will respond to you. So what do you do if you don't know any college coaches?
You leverage other people's college coach networks.
Here's how...
Every college coach has their "QB guy", or their "OL guy," or, in our case, their "K/P guy", that they rely on for referrals of quality prospects from. "If so-and-so coach likes them, I'll check them out," is the idea. So here is exactly how you can leverage these "gatekeepers" in your own recruiting.
1. Leverage your HS football coach's contacts and enlist their help in your recruiting early.
2. No supportive HS coach? That's OK leverage your private coaches' networks.
3. Every region of the country has their own kicking warlord you can pay tribute to to access their network of college coaches. You're not going to them for their coaching you're going for their contacts.
4. Tag these various regional coaches in posts (nothing puffs up an ego like seeing yourself tagged!) But if you're just tagging these coaches to tag them, it's not going to be as effective as traveling out to pay to attend one of their events. Then they'll usually go to bat for you.
5. Can you access coaching contacts without access to regional private coaches? Yes. But it is a lot faster a process if you have the ability to work with them at least once to get the leverage to ask them to push their name out to their college coaching network etc.
There is no college coach that takes a private coach's opinion at face value blindly. They all do their own due diligence.
All you can hope for is this: That a private coach who sees your potential will help you cut through the 100's of recruits vying for a college coach's attention by giving them your name as a referral as a player that might be worth their time.
Beyond that, everything else is out of a private coach's hands.
