In general, recruiting has always been a long, drawn out process. But, with roster cuts coming at the bigger schools, it has created a “wait and see” 10 car pile up for smaller division levels down stream.

If you’re a Group of 5 school, of course you are going to wait until the portal opens up to see which 3rd and 4th string Power 4 backups get cut and go into the portal.

If you’re an FCS program, of course you are going to wait until the portal opens up to see which Group of 5 talent gets cut and goes into the portal.

And, so on and so forth, a great talent trickle down happens.

Being patient is the hardest thing to do in recruiting, even during good years. Even more so now, especially as a HS kid.

To really be a legitimate D1 prospect in 2024 and, going forward, you need to be able to produce on the field by year 2, at the latest or you’re going to be pushed out.

There just isn’t time to develop and coach talent, so most programs are scouting like NFL teams - looking for talent to chaperone rather than improve.

The days of the development player that needs 3 years to see the field are waning.

So, ask yourself: What level of college football am I year 1, day 1 ready to see the field at?

That is probably where you are going to end up.
